So...
I would imagine the concept of Blackboard would be great. Granted there are a couple teachers that use it fully, but I've run into hardly any of them. I get it though, we're not the only class, or this isn't your only job, or whatever the reason is. However, school isn't my only priority or responsibility. School is not the only thing that creates havoc on my week. It isn't the only headache I have...and it certainly isn't the only thing that I can barely fit into my schedule. However, I have time to do the homework, the projects, the studying. I can somehow manage to do that while working full-time and going to school almost full-time. Is it maybe that some professors don't like Blackboard? That they feel it is more of a pain? I doubt any will read, but here goes my 2 cents. Use Blackboard, if not for you then for us. Even if it is just updated on Friday's or Sunday's. I truly feel it helps to see your progress, or lack of. If it is sitting in front of you it makes it "real". To get tests back some good, some bad and just stash it away does nothing for me to track it. Sure I should be more responsible to track these things, but c'mon how long will it take to grade tests and just pop those grades in Blackboard? At least it is something I can reference on a daily basis. Oh and could we please use the announcement sections? I work full-time and I may not be able to make it to class one day because of work, but then I go the next class day and find out it's canceled. If we use the announcement to let us know then at least some of us can be relieved of that hassle. Work and home are nowhere near school for some of us, so it helps. Anyway, just my thoughts...it's a shame to have a tool like Blackboard and have no one use it. To the teachers that do use it fully Thanks! Props to Professor Strid on that! To other's I know life is busy, but it would be awesome to utilize such a great system! |

Perhaps it's just something that will take time, a couple of semesters or years until some additional teachers get used to it.
If you haven't used anything like this before, you have to admit it's a little strange. Does it stand by itself, or is it something inside of NEIUport, which is another addition! Prof. Casey has been using it for philosophy courses for a couple of years that I've been taking classes. It is worthwhile. One thing: it's possible to send email to every individual or all individuals in a class. Without Blackboard you need to gather the addresses individually. Blackboard is good, it just make take time for all of us to adapt to it. |
